What are some of the questions and answers on winning our Sustainability Award?

Describe how your company’s economic performance contributes to the overall economic health of Tampa Bay i.e. local hiring or purchasing, product/service innovation based on customer needs, employment growth, reinvestment etc.

Bay Tech Label hires from the local area whenever possible. We were able to hire some employees who’s employers were not able to survive recent economic down turns. Their skill and training is a valuable asset to Bay Tech Label.

We use Tampa Bay area companies for services such as painting, plumbing, electrical work, roof repair, heating and air conditioning service.

Bay Tech Label has been able to work through these difficult economic times without losing employees. In fact, we are growing year to year.

Describe how your company strives to be a good citizen of the Tampa Bay community i.e. programs to improve work environment, employee benefits, community infrastructure, charitable outreach programs etc.

Bay tech Label annually sponsors the Pinellas Living Green Expo. The Pinellas Living Green Expo provides real solutions for people to live better, healthier lives with less impact on the environment. The Expo connects people who are interested in making a positive difference in both their lives and in their communities. Participation has grown dramatically since its inception.

We offer a flexible work schedule for those who choose to use public transportation.

For employees interested in furthering their education, Bay Tech Label offers a flexible work schedule when possible and tuition reimbursement.

Bay Tech Label participated in a program teaming up with USF and OSHA that involved checking the noise level throughout the manufacturing area and doing an informal health and safety audit.

Bay Tech Label distributed packages of energy saving long life fluorescent bulbs to employees so they may replace the incandescent bulbs in their homes.

Employees teamed up with Randstad Work Solutions to gather dry goods for those in need.

Besides offering health, dental, life, and long term disability insurance to employees they are encouraged to prepare for the future with a generous funds matching 401K.

Describe how your company is engaged in contributing to the environmental health of the Tampa Bay area i.e. programs to reduce waste, energy audits, recycling, reduce the use of toxic substances in operations, LEEDS construction etc.

Bay Tech Label has a Sustainability Committee comprised of members from various departments throughout the company. Their purpose is to choose projects to make us more environmentally friendly and choose an annual goal. This year’s goal is to reduce energy consumption by 5%. As the committee grows we will be overseeing educating employees, communicating with customers and suppliers to express our sustainability efforts.

We have changed over from hazardous chemicals to environmentally friendly ones and continue on in this effort. Whereever possible, we use water based inks and solutions.

Progress energy has completed an energy audit on location and we have taken the necessary steps to implement the solutions offered.

A multi-filtered press pan wash-up system has been installed to reduce water use and waste.

We recycle every opportunity we can. We recycle paper, printer ink cartridges, corrugated, pallets and ink.

Office flooring made of recycled cork.

Upgraded lighting to longer lasting energy efficient fluorescent lamps.

Installed skylights in manufacturing for natural light.

Modified duct work on press dryers to draw warm/hot air from outside instead of drawing from air that was already cooled by air conditioning.

Re-landscaped using vegetation that requires less watering and no mowing.

Upgraded windows to more efficient gas filled double pane windows to keep rooms cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

Use LED lights for exit signs.

Motion sensors installed on office and restroom light switches to keep unused rooms lights off.

Programmable thermostats were installed so heating and air conditioning is used only during business hours.

Pest control is managed with non hazardous natural pesticides.

Motion sensors installed on vending machines so that they power down when not in use in evenings and weekends.

Bay Tech Label is in continuous pursuit of more efficient, energy saving ideas and other issues that affect the natural environment.

Bay Tech Label Sustainability Policy

Bay Tech Label, Inc. is committed to protecting the global environment through economically, socially, and environmentally responsible practices. To support this sustainability initiative, we will:

  • Comply with all applicable local, state, and federal environmental regulations;
  • Continually enhance business practices and services to minimize our environmental impact;
  • Effectively manage the use of natural resources to conserve energy, water and other raw materials;
  • Protect and support the health and safety of our employees and the surrounding communities and ecosystems.

The initiative will involve programs and policies to address the following objectives:

  • Assess current usage and practices as a benchmark for improvements;
  • Reduce paper and related product usage and purchase recycled/reused products when available;
  • Reduce solid waste sources through recycling and reusing and follow appropriate avenues for disposal of hazardous materials and equipment;
  • Reduce energy usage via energy-saving practices and purchasing;
  • Implement “green” purchasing guidelines for equipment, office supplies, cleaning supplies, marketing materials, and other related business expenses;
  • Train and require employee involvement in sustainability practices, with full management support;
  • Collaborate with customers, suppliers, local organizations and the surrounding community on environmental issues.

Bay Tech Label, Inc. will create and maintain performance benchmarks, compliance checklists and other documentation to periodically measure and report our progress in realizing these commitments.
